Covers are negotiated, never bought.
Nine covers placed. Ten Walls, Adrianna, Bubba Brothers, Principleasure and the rest.
A cover is the hardest thing to get and the one nobody can sell you. It is an editorial decision, taken months ahead, by people who need a reason: an album, a milestone, a story the magazine wants to be the one telling. My job is to know which magazine is looking for which story, and to arrive with the artist that fits it.
That is nine covers so far, across Vicious Magazine, DJ Mag Spain and Melodic Dancers, plus the long-form interviews and features that usually come with them.
What you get
- A cover pitch built around a real reason — album, anniversary, tour, milestone
- The magazine chosen for the artist and the territory
- Coordination of the shoot, the interview and the deadlines
- The long-form piece written or supervised
- Print and digital editions handled together
How it works
- 01The reason comes firstNo album, no story, no cover. We find the reason or we wait for it.
- 02The magazine is approachedMonths ahead, with the artist, the images and the angle in one document.
- 03The issue is builtShoot, interview, approvals and release date lined up.
What it is not
It is not an advertorial and it is not a paid front page. If a title offers to sell you a cover, that is a rate card, and it reads like one.
Questions
Can you get any artist on a cover?
No. A cover needs a reason the magazine wants to publish. What can be done is to build the year so the reason exists, and pitch it at the right moment.
How far ahead do covers get decided?
Two to six months, depending on the title and whether it is print. Print closes earlier than anyone expects.
Which magazines have you placed?
Vicious Magazine, DJ Mag Spain and Melodic Dancers so far, with cover pitches open at Mixmag, FazeMag and Zone Magazine.
